What CNSL is used for
- Friction materials — brake linings and clutch facings
- Phenolic resins and laminates
- Paints, varnishes and coatings
- Surfactants and specialty chemicals
Its most valuable derivative is cardanol. CNSL is extracted during shell oil extraction.
CNSL is caustic and can irritate skin — it is an industrial material handled with appropriate protection, not a food product.
