Husk vs shell
In cashew processing, "husk" and "shell" usually mean the same hard outer casing separated from the kernel at shelling. Both terms describe the by-product that fuels the plant and yields CNSL.
What cashew husk is used for
- Biomass fuel — burned in the shell burner for process heat
- CNSL — the shell liquid extracted for industry
- Carbon credits — waste-to-energy revenue
Not waste
Using husk for heat makes steaming and drying largely fuel-free — the plant powers itself from its own by-product.
