Too dry vs too moist
| Condition | Effect on peeling |
|---|---|
| Too dry (brittle) | Kernels shatter — more splits and pieces |
| Ideal window | Skin releases cleanly, kernel stays whole |
| Too moist | Testa clings — poor peel, needs re-work |
How to control it
A humidification chamber re-conditions brittle dried kernels to the ideal peeling moisture, and a moisture meter verifies it before kernels reach the peeling machine.
Conditioning kernels into the right moisture window can noticeably raise whole-kernel yield — the grades that carry the highest price.
